RACV Torquay is a golf resort on the Great Ocean Road with views that mix ocean and fairway rather than one or the other. Between the indoor ceremony space, the upper balcony, the bushy area out back and the beach just down the road, you get a handful of completely different looks without leaving the property.
What I love about shooting here
RACV Torquay gives you more genuinely different backdrops in one venue than almost anywhere else I shoot. The bushy area out the back is where I take couples for golden hour portraits, it’s tucked away from the main function areas and the light through the trees late in the day is some of the best on the whole property.
If you’re doing an indoor ceremony, the space here is genuinely beautiful and easy to work with, good natural light, nothing awkward to shoot around. The upper balcony is a strong ceremony option too if you want something with a bit more view and height to it.
And don’t leave without a couple of shots in the curved hallway. It’s become a bit of an iconic spot for this venue, and it photographs like nowhere else nearby.
Photo timeline tips for RACV Torquay
If you’re getting married here, here’s what I’d suggest.
If you’re keen on beach photos, the beach itself is only a short drive away and usually easy to get to. Just be aware that in summer, beachgoer traffic and parking can slow things down, so build a bit of buffer into your timeline if a beach trip is part of the plan.
Save the bushy back area for golden hour. It’s the best light on the property late in the day, and it’s worth timing your portraits around it rather than squeezing them in earlier just for convenience.
Whichever ceremony space you choose, indoor or the upper balcony, let your coordinator know you want a few minutes in the curved hallway on the way through. It’s an easy one to forget in the rush of the day, but it’s one of the most distinctive shots you’ll get from this venue.
Jacqui and Charlie’s day
Jacqui and Charlie got married here under the arch in the indoor ceremony space, timber and stone and good natural light doing most of the work without needing much else added to it. Their wedding party photos went down at the beach, a short drive from the resort, and we squeezed in a few portraits in the curved hallway on the way through to the reception, one of those small additions to a timeline that’s easy to skip but always worth the two minutes.
It’s a genuinely varied day photography-wise for a single venue. Indoor ceremony, beach portraits, resort architecture, all within a few minutes of each other, which is exactly what makes RACV Torquay a good pick if you want range in your gallery without a long drive between locations.
